October 2024 Newsletter
PASTOR’S CORNER
Greetings in the name of our wonderful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! It is amazing to me that we are
already looking at our Fall schedule. October and November will be exciting months as we prepare for
the Advent season to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
In October, we will have our annual Charge Conference on the 21st at 6 PM in the Sanctuary. It will
be open to all members. The elder in charge from the Global Methodist Church, will be the pastor from
Williston. I am leading their charge conference on Sunday afternoon; October 27 and I will also lead
the Nueva Vida charge conference in Marion Oaks on October 12 at 9 o’clock in the morning.
As you know, our women’s yearly flea market will be on the 25th and 26 of October. This is always a
great time of fellowship and blessing the community and receiving funds for mission and ministry.
October 31 which falls on a Thursday this year, will be our annual trunk or treat. It is always a great
ministry to our community. This year the plan is to have everyone end up inside the friendship hall,
where the Adam and Eve class will be serving hotdogs, potato chips and water. The praise band for the
new Crossroads worship service will be playing. This is going to be a great outreach to our community
young families. The kickoff service to the community will be November 6. We are hoping to do some
trial runs just within our church body in October.
I also have a Global Methodist ministers’ conference for one day on October 10 in Oviedo, Florida.
That same day, our Methodist men have scheduled their monthly dinner due to cancellation in
September because of the storm.
As you can see, that’s a whole lot of activities besides the regular activities that we have each and
every week. November, of course leads us to wonderful worship services as well as the week of
Thanksgiving.
We have so much to be thankful for here in our great country. Even in the mist of diverse opinions in
the political realm we are still so blessed and fortunate to be called Americans. May God bless you and
lead you during these autumn months and may the Lord Jesus Christ bring you joy. Blessings

MISSIONS HIGHLIGHTS By Rick DuCharme, Chairperson
DMW Missions Fair: DMW hosted a Missions Fair and bake sale Saturday, September. Many of our
Mission representatives participated by displaying information regarding the individual missions of our
church and providing briefings and answering questions with participants.
Honduras: Rosa Wood has closed the school in Honduras due to the building owner requesting
vacancy by August 30. Rosa has had to reimburse 50 parents of children enrolled for the current
school year and for books and other school supplies purchased by the parents. She is in the process of
selling her car, and the school computers and other equipment, but requests continued funding through
October to be able to settle financial obligations with the teachers.
Dominican Republic: The Missions Committee approved The Dominican Rebublic mission following
a meeting with Missionary Rick Sucher, Pastor Eddie, Rick DuCharme and Elizabeth Chryst to request
our church join other churches in providing regular support for this mission. They currently have 250
children in schools, provide vocational and occupational training for seven different job skills, and feed
many needy families. Missions Committee agreed to replace Honduras mission with Dominican
Republic mission. Rick Sucher participated in DMW Mission Fair 9/21.
Cuba: Pastor Israel Leiva shared photos of 80 children and adults participating in Summer Vacation
Bible School August 24. Last week they had special activities with the Women’s group and the Men’s
group. They continue to provide lunch after Sunday services. The generator we sent has been a
blessing as there are frequent and lengthy power outages. They recently hosted theological classes for
three seminary students. They also recently held a congregational baptism at the beach.
Scott and Marcia Skelton: Continue to send medical supplies for several hospitals in Cuba. We are
shipping them through CubaMax to a family member who is a nurse at one of two hospitals (one is a
children’s hospital) in Camaguey, Cuba where the supplies are being distributed. Scott and Marcia
participated in the Missions Fair.
Jesus Is: Mark Baker reported that Jesus Is currently has 17 men and 6 women in the program. They
need donations of work clothes for the clients. Jesus Is provides 375 food boxes monthly to needy
members of the community. Mark also said they tow a refrigerated trailer to Brooksville Publix three
times per week to accept donations of outdated foods. They are in need of a replacement pickup tow
truck as the current truck has several hundred thousand miles requiring frequent repairs. Mark and two
representatives from Jesus Is participated in the Missions Fair.
Care Portal Ministry: Elizabeth Chryst coordinated Care Portal team members in presenting Ashly, a
needy single mom in Beverly Hills, with a $200 gas card. Ashley was given a new “used” 2016 model
car from another church to replace her dying 2002 car. Contact Elizabeth Chryst to join the Care Portal
Ministry Team.
Happy Feet/Food for Kids: Tom Tarkenton has delivered 28 pairs of shoes to Citrus Springs High
School and Elementary School since school has begun. Food for Kids continues to provide food for 40
kids weekly through the Dunnellon Boys and Girls Club.
Family Resource Center: Susie Phillips reported that the Center wants to rebrand itself as providing
“hands up,” not a “hand out.” Also, the Connections Building is being used to store Christmas gift
items. Last year they provided 1965 Christmas gifts to registered needy families. The Center wants to
become a One-Stop resource center with staff medical personnel, access to computers for job searches,
food stamps, food for homeless and bikes for folks that need transportation to work. Susie participated
in the Missions Fair.
Karen Hotz reported that she is in the last semester of her Master’s Degree program. She is working
with Dr. Trina Wisecroft at ITEC to change a basic medical/first aid course to that everyone can learn
the material regardless of education level (illiterates can learn with literates). She also reported that her
training program has now reached a 3rd and 4th generation of trainers. Karen participated in the
Missions Fair.
Michelle-O-Gram: Sherry Roberts reports that the Bunko Babes held a successful fund-raiser in
September, and the Pink Bus will visit the Dunnellon Woman’s Club in November. Sherry and Susie
Blauser participated in the Missions Fair.
Thanks for your support of these Mission Programs. We are the Hands and Feet of Jesus as a
Mission-minded church!

Tunk Or Treat: Jennifer Nemetch reports that Trunk or Treat this year is Thursday Oct. 31st from
5:30pm to 7:30pm. We will be doing trunks for trick or treating and we will give away free hotdogs,
chip, and waters. We need people to do a trunk and we need a lot of candy.
Please donate bags of candy if you can. There will be a place to drop off the candy in the Narthex or
you can bring it to the church office. If you would like to do a trunk, there will be a sign-up sheet in
the Narthex. Please sign-up and take an information sheet. If you have any questions, you can contact
Jennifer Nemetch at 352-216-8574.
Adam and Eve: Class is Wednesday night in the Fellowship Hall from 5:00pm - 7:00pm. Dinner is
from 5:00pm - 5:45pm. Class will start at 6:00pm. Class will be in the Fellowship Hall this
Wednesday Oct. 2nd. Starting
Oct. 9th, the class will be in the chapel. Ther are also classes for the children and youth.

STEPHEN MINISTRY by Roger Blanton, Leader
Our Stephen Ministers continue to provide Christian care to those in need. We are in progress of
starting a new initiative we’re calling Pastoral Care. Initially we called this the Hospital Ministry, but
quickly found those in need of visitation were not only in hospitals, but also rehab centers, assisted
living centers, and private homes. In addition to Stephen Ministers making these visits a number of
volunteers have agreed to add their names to help with Pastoral Care. These are Florence Celani, Lynn
Polack, Terry Carlyle, Marilyn and David Fialkowski, Jean Main, Rick DuCharme, and Cindy
Rockwell. Special training for Pastoral Care will be required on the first Monday of October,
November and December at 4:00 in the Chapel. This training is for all Stephen Ministers and those
helping with Pastoral Care. As some of you heard Larry Starkey witness about one of his visits, these
visits bless not only the care receiver, but the care giver as well. Please pray for this new initiative.
FORGET ME NOT MINISTRY by Grace Burks
Forget-Me-Not needs volunteers to help with Respite and Caregiver Relief. They meet every Tuesday
from 1 to 4 PM in our Friendship Hall. Our volunteers offer a few hours of relief for Caregivers,
allowing them a much needed physical and mental break. We play board games, assemble puzzles, do
mild exercises or visit and listen. If you are free please stop and give some of your time to a worthy
mission of our church.
CERTIFIED LAY MINISTRY (CLM)
The CLMs continue to meet once a month with Pastor Eddie for ongoing in-depth study. We are
currently studying John Wesley’s sermons. CLMs are conducting a worship service for residents at
The Bridge in Ocala, the fourth Sunday of the month. As well as assisting Pastor as liturgists and
speakers.
PRAYER QUILT MINISTRY by Charlotte Eberhard, Co-Chair
Prayers and Squares members meet at Friendship Hall on the 2nd Thursday of each month (unless
notified differently) from 9 – 11 AM. New members are always welcome. Fabrics, batting, and
patterns are available at the meeting. We will also do the cutting of a pattern for you, layer a quilt, and
assist new quilters.
Due to the size of our congregation, it is impossible for us to automatically make a quilt for each
person whom is ill or hospitalized. Prayer Quilts are made on request. Thanks to members of the
Dunnellon Country Quilters we have several beautiful quilts already made up for men, women and
children waiting for your request. A black notebook with information sheets to request a quilt for a
friend or loved one is located at the Welcome Center in the Narthex. A prayer quilt may also be
requested by calling Charlotte Eberhard at 352-465-7330 or Laura Rutkowski at 352-465-0527. Please
remember that all prayer quilts may be washed but you should use cold water and a gentle cycle.
Thank you for your support in tying a knot and saying a prayer for someone in need even though you
do not know them. As you may see from the thank you notes we share it truly is appreciated by those
who receive our quilts. We wish to share this thank you note received from Cindy Rockwell who has
multiple health issues related to Diabetes including Peripheral neuropathy and Charcot Foot as well as
congenital heart problems. “Dear Charlotte and all the ladies in the Prayer Quilt Ministry Chapter
#98, I am so thankful for the lovely quilt, it is so perfect and beautiful. The colors match my home and I
am so touched for getting this incredible gift. More than anything I am filled with gratitude for the
many prayers and words of encouragement that came along with the quilt. The whole month of
September will be filled with medical testing and I am thankful for the prayers and love from the
church. I am reminded that I am not alone in these struggles. Thank you all so much!! In gratitude,
Cindy Rockwell”
DUNNELLON METHODIST MEN (DMM) by Ken Korey, President
The Dunnellon Methodist Men (DMM) last met 5/23/24. The scheduled 9/26/24 meeting was
cancelled because of hurricane Helene. The next meeting is currently scheduled for Thursday, October
10th, @ noon, in Friendship Hall. In addition to our traditional fried chicken, we will also be serving
bratwurst courtesy of Gary Melby.
Volunteers will be needed to assist the Methodist Women (DMW) with their tremendously successful
Flea Market fundraiser on October 25th and 26th.
DMM will also get to provide the lunch concession for the flea market event.
Please plan to join us on October 10th. All FMCD men are invited. Roger Blanton will deliver our
devotional.
God’s Blessings to all
DUNNELLON METHODIST WOMEN (DMW by Nancy Riley, President
Dunnellon Methodist Women had a Mission Fair/Bake Sale on September 21st. We highlighted 16
Missions that our church family supports. It was a great turn out for a first-time event. We hope that
next year those of you who missed it will be able to show up and see what we do. We support many
local outreach Missions and many Ministries. It was great to see the ones that we support and see what
your donations are used.
Our next event will be our Flea Market/Bake Sale. It will be on October 25th and 26th. Clean out your
garages and closets and any furniture that you would like to donate.
On November 9th will be a Christmas Get-away for Moms from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. This if a time
for Moms to have time to go Christmas shopping or be able to catch up on some things or maybe a
date for you and your spouse.
Ladies, we would love to have you join one of our circles in Friendship Hall: Naomi's Circle meets
the first Wednesday of the month at 9:30 a.m. come early for coffee, our Miriam Circle meets on the
first Thursday at 12:30 p.m. we look forward to seeing you there.

SEWING FOR SOULS by JoLynn Peart, Chair
Sewing for souls had the pleasure of donating 412 items to Newborns in Need this month. We made
Halloween smocks, blankets, bibs and burp pads. Pamm McLaughlan made orange and yellow candy
corn hats to adorn the smocks for baby costumes.
We also had numerous knitted blankets from Judy French and a group in Ocala from the First
Methodist church.
While having lunch in Brooksville we met a lady by the name of Lynn from Lecanto that would like to
pick up items to sew for us at home.
It’s such an awesome feeling to create Gods kingdom one stitch at a time. Thank you all for your
support of what we ladies love doing every Friday in Friendship Hall.
AGAPE SECURITY by John Taylor, Security Manager
Agape safety team has been busy trying to attend every function that our church sponsors. We have
now 17 Licensed safety team members and 9 Auxiliary members. It sounds like we have plenty of
volunteers, but with everything that our beautiful church has scheduled it makes it difficult to attend
and make sure everyone is safe.
We had a wonderful gift from the Methodist Women, which we used to purchase several state of the
art First Aid mannequins. We now have two certified instructors that will be able to offer more training
sessions. The training is free. It is a great opportunity for your family to have the ability to render first
aid.
By the time you have read this message we will have had a Hurricane hit Florida, I pray that everyone
stayed safe. May God Bless each and every one of you. See you on Sunday.
SECOND LIFE THRIFT SHOP Dot Chadwick, Board Chair
Jesus said in (ERV)Matthew 5:14-15 “You are the light that shines for the world to see. You are like a
city built on a hill that cannot be hidden. People don’t hide a lamp under a bowl. They put it on a
lamp stand. Then the light shines for everyone. The Thrift Shop “SHINED THEIR JESUS LIGHT”
some weeks ago, when Sandy Griggs, a newcomer to our area, came to the Thrift Shop for the first
time. She saw we were affiliated with First Methodist Church of Dunnellon, but she indicated she was
“unhappy” with the United Methodist Church and was looking for a new church home. The cashier
told her that our church was a Global Methodist Church and we had disaffiliated from the United
Methodist Church... Sandy said “I’ll be there next Sunday”...she was ...and she is now one of our
newest members. WELCOME SANDY!!!!
IT’S FALL, Y’ALL!!! And if you’re cleaning out your closets, don’t forget to put aside any GOOD
QUALITY clothing, kitchenware & furniture and bring it to the Thrift Shop 10am-1pm, Monday-
Saturday. Please don’t send stained, ripped, clothing with buttons missing or zippers that don’t
work...the same with shoes..PLEASE....if you wouldn’t buy it..others won’t want or buy it either. We
want others to find OUR CHURCH’S THRIFT SHOP as place of “good value” merchandise.
We also respectfully ask that when we are closed, you do not leave merchandise on the sidewalk or at
the back of the store as the Church/Shop can be fined when someone does this. When you come to the
Thrift Shop, don’t forget to bring non-perishables or cans of food (CANNOT BE OUTDATED) to put
in our food bin (up front) for the Citrus County Resource Center which is donated to them through our
church.
Thank you to the men who have already volunteered to make themselves available, however, we could
still use a few more strong men who are available on a regular basis to help us move large bags, boxes,
furniture and get bins from our storage area. May the Lord bless you for blessing The Second Life
Thrift Shop so we may bless others!!! WE SINCERELY THANK YOU FOR YOUR ONGOING
SUPPORT!!! Dot Chadwick (with input from Manager, Melanie Barker and SR. Leader Dianne
Takahashi)
